Coffee equipment seller Prima Coffee Equipment last week launched Second Shot Market, an online marketplace for pre-owned or open-box coffee equipment.
Open to the public as of Sept. 22, the site hosts listings of home and commercial coffee equipment, as well as cafe and food service equipment. The platform walks vendors through the processes of creating accounts, pricing items, taking photos and shipping. Second Shot takes an 8% commission on completed sales, with no listing fees during the startup period.
“Second Shot is designed for everyone, whether you’re a home barista looking to upgrade, a cafe clearing out backroom equipment or a technician with extra parts,” Prima Coffee Equipment Content and Partnerships Manager Mac Aubrey told Daily Coffee News. “The platform gives all users the chance to pass gear on for a second life, serving both consumers and professionals.”
Prima Coffee Service Lead John Erler conceived the project after being inspired by Reverb.com, a popular platform for used music gear. Kentucky-based Prima developed and launched it as a team effort. Second Shot represents the second major store launch for Prima this year. It follows the opening of Prima’s first brick-and-mortar equipment showroom and store at its home base in Louisville.
“Second Shot is backed and operated by Prima Coffee, with customer service, marketing and development teams fully integrated into the platform’s workflow,” Aubrey said. “Users can expect the same reliability, support, and commitment to the coffee community that Prima is known for.”
The site’s initial inventory includes Prima showroom floor models, extra stock, perfect-condition returns, open-box and scratch-and-dent items, plus some early listings from community members nationwide.
Second Shot said it monitors listings to prevent fraud and requires clear descriptions and quality photos showing defects. Minor violations earn warnings, while repeat offenders will face suspension or bans. Seller payments are held 10 days to confirm receipt and resolve disputes.
Prima will operate both brands independently while guiding Second Shot’s growth and daily operations.
“The platform aims to make quality coffee gear more accessible, support a more sustainable coffee community and give equipment that would otherwise go unused a true second life,” Aubrey said. “Prima is excited to see how Second Shot evolves with the community.”
